Yesterday, Steven Curtis Chapman's manager Jim Houser announced the title of the artist's upcoming new album re:creation. According to his blog post, Chapman's album will consist of a handful of new songs as well as several hits given a brand new, re-imagined life. Check out a portion of Houser's blog below and then visit his page for the whole thing.
A little background… The new album will be titled, re:creation.I think Steven would say that title speaks to a few things. There are 3 to 5 brand new songs on the album. There are also some of Steven’s biggest songs too. re:creation being partially… the actual re:creation of 6 to 8 of Steven’s biggest hits, which are re-imagined and re-recorded in a new musical space. More and maybe Most importantly though, the word re:creation speaks to the new life God is creating… re:creating… for the Chapmans as they walk on in the new normal. And I think it shows in these new recordings.
The entire world gave Steven permission to be inner focused on the last album, BEAUTY WILL RISE, and I think the result is an evergreen album that will be leaned upon for years by those inside and outside the church when dealing with the hardest of struggles and questions of death, tragedy, and depression… all the while clinging and looking for hope.
On this album though, from what I’ve heard… it’s Steven showing that while the Chapmans will never forget Maria and it will still hurt on many days, they are walking on. I think it will be private processing about Maria from here on out. And in this walking on by the Chapmans… I suspect we will look up and find that they have lived out and shown us that it’s ok to laugh and smile again. No, it’s better than ok, it’s time. It’s important. It’s Biblical. These songs reflect these truths… In a honest way.
